Learn a New Craft ....be creative...
Welcome to my Workshop introduction page . I have been organising and delivering workshops since 2005, although I have been making felt since 1996. I love what I do and I enjoy sharing my techniques and knowledge with likeminded people. My specialism is Sculptural Felt, I just love the magical process of creating a 3 dimensional sculpture from soft wool. My main focus in teaching is based on learning and accumulating techniques. Once you acquire a variety of techniques this enables you to bring your ideas and designs to life. I love to experiment, its the only way for your work to evolve, don't stand still too long! I like well made felt and I share this with my students, constantly working to achieve the best you possibly can.
In 2022 I am approaching workshops cautiously. I have not planned a full year ahead and have been organising just one date at a time to react to current circumstances.
The workshops takes place in Snainton Village Hall in North Yorkshire, between Pickering and Scarborough on the main A170 road. Very easy to find and easy free parking on site. I provide all the equipment and materials you need during the workshop, although I do ask you bring your own sharp scissors and two towels, occasionally you may need to bring other items such as sewing needles.
I provide endless cups of coffee and tea along with biscuits and afternoon cake. Please bring your own packed lunch. All workshops are on a Saturday and start at 10am and finish at 4pm.
Workshops are suitable for all abilities as I work with students to suit their experience. There are usually ten people in each workshop. Come with a friend or come on your own and make new friends. The workshops are always friendly and welcoming, spend a day with likeminded people. You can read previous reviews here.
I have now just planned a workshop for later in the year on October 22nd. As always the workshop will take place at Snainton Village Hall in North Yorkshire.
Saturday 22nd October 2022
Felt, Fibre, Fabric & Stitch Workshop
Snainton Village Hall North Yorkshire
Spend the day in likeminded company experimenting with felt to create a Textile collection of samples to make into a folding style display to keep.
During the day you will make your own pieces of felt to create a collection of small samples containing a selection of techniques on each piece . The samples will explore a wide variety of techniques incorporating textural surfaces using a selection of silks and fibres. We will also use stitch, fabrics, hand spun yarn and natural fibres to create interesting surfaces. Finally you will have a taster of effects that can be achieved with shibori felt Wrapping/stitching methods, to achieve interesting shapes and surfaces once dry and stitching is removed (not dyeing).
I will end the day showing you how you could display your samples, once dry, in a variety of ways, including combining them with found objects, wire and wood. If you manage to finish all your sampling and the felt is dry enough we can make a start on the assembly of your sample collection. I will provide a selection of found objects suitable to incorporate with your work. I will also have lots of samples that may spark ideas for incorporating your own found objects you may have at home.
This workshop is a relaxing day of mixed methods to produce a variety of small pieces that can be referred back to for reference when creating your own work in the future. It allows you to try small samples of a wide variety of methods all in one day. Come with an open mind and enjoy the process.
Having tried a sample of techniques you could then go on in the future to learn in more detail about your favourite results.
