Spikes and Decorative Craters Wallhanging or Vessel
Snainton Village Hall North Yorkshire
Spend the day in likeminded company learning how to make a variety of sculptural surface techniques.
If you have ever wondered how spikes are attached to the central areas of felt this workshop will share with you a variety of methods. I will also show you how to create Spikes popping out of a crater, fiddly but fun.
These methods are completely different to the method of attaching spikes to edges.
I will show you how to add surface decoration to the inside as well as the outside of your craters. You will learn how to create larger multi layered craters with multi hole cutting to reveal within.
Throughout the workshop you will learn to use various types of resists to attain different results.
During this workshop I will demonstrate the following techniques, you can choose to try all of them or select those that appeal.
- How to create a spike in a variety of ways
- How to securely attach a spike
- How to attach spikes within a crater
- How to decorate the surface with silks and decorative fibres
- How to cut away the surface to create openings
- How to make multi layered craters that have decorative cutaway outer surface
- How to make a resist template for a vessel
- How to lay out your wool on a resist to achieve varying results
You can choose to add the techniques to a Vessel or to create a flat Wallhanging. The choice is yours.
Everyone will have differing levels of experience so I will encourage each of you individually to create your chosen design offering guidance on choices to ensure you will be able to finish within the timescale of the workshop.
I will have a variety of samples to help you design your pieces. These will illustrate how using a resist and cutting in different ways can completely change the outcome.
There are endless possibilities when combining a variety of techniques….come with an open mind.
The image is just a taste of my style to suggest some possibilities, at the workshop I will have an extensive collection of samples to inspire you.
There will be a variety of coloured wool but also a variety of natural undyed wool in various breeds and shades. I will also provide decorative silks and textures to add to the surface.
