Resist and Cut [miniature] Vessels
Snainton Village Hall North Yorkshire
In 2023 I delivered this new workshop for the first time. If you are familiar with my own work you will know that I tend to make small miniature style vessels. I enjoyed sharing my methods and felt everyone produced an interesting collection of small pieces. I received some very positive feedback..
I thought it would be a good idea to offer this workshop again in 2024. I will of course have even more samples to show you as another year has passed.
The quantity you create will depend on your choices on the day. I will have a wide selection of samples to inspire you, from these you can choose what appeals to you. I would suggest everyone should be able to make and finish two small vessels. Those with more experience may make more.
Spend the day in likeminded company learning how to create small hollow 3D felt in a variety of ways.
Depending on experience you should be able to make two or three or maybe four smaller felt pieces.
I will show you how to use a variety of different shaped resists, Pods, circular, ovals, pebble, triangles, etc. and then cut in alternative ways. Single holes, multiple holes, large and small.
I will have a variety of samples to help you design your pieces. These will illustrate how using a resist and cutting in different ways can completely change the outcome.
I will show you how to add wool & fibres to the edges and surfaces to extend, change and add decorative interest to your vessel.
You can choose to make pieces that suit you, it could be purely decorative, it could be a functional vessel to use, possibly to hold a small plant or pieces of jewellery on your bedside, make two or three in varying sizes to create a group. If you like very functional pieces the same shapes could be cut differently and made into pouches, hang around your neck for your phone or glasses for example. Change it again and it could be a wall pouch to pop things in. Endless possibilities….come with an open mind.
The image is just a taste of my style to suggest some possibilities, at the workshop I will have an extensive collection of samples to inspire you.
There will be a variety of coloured wool but also a variety of natural undyed wool in various breeds and shades. I will also provide decorative silks and textures to add to the surface.
I provide most equipment and all materials required during the workshop.
All you need to bring is:
Two large towels
A carrier bag to take wet towels home
A sharp pair of scissors
I will provide endless tea and coffee, biscuits and afternoon cake.
Please remember your own packed lunch.
This workshop is a relaxing day of mixed methods to produce a variety of small pieces that can be referred back to for reference when creating your own work in the future. It allows you to try small samples of a wide variety of methods all in one day. Come with an open mind and enjoy the process.
Having tried a sample of techniques during the workshop you could then go on in the future to learn in more detail about your favourite techniques.
