Boro Style Feltmaking - Only 1 place left

This is a very relaxed workshop and much easier on the hands and arms than some feltmaking techniques. Spend the day taking inspiration from traditional Japanese techniques such as Boro and Sashiko.

We will start with a blank background and add prefelts, fabrics, papers and thread at different stages of the process to achieve different effects. A day of experimentation.

Traditionally Boro was a mending method used to prolong the life of workwear and clothing. Often indigo blue is the familiar thought for colours however it can be any shade of colour. Whilst I will provide a variety of blues there will be other colours available to choose from.

We will cover adding Sashiko stitching before during and after wet felting to achieve various outcomes. There will be elements of cutting, revealing and layering combined with gentle basic stitch. No previous stitch or feltmaking experience is required.

I will provide a wide selection of wool, silk fabric, silk paper, threads, recycled fabrics and hand dyed fabric and fibres to use.

Once the piece is finished I will show you options of how to use it. If you love it just as it is you could frame it, I will show you how I mount a piece to frame. You could cut and then stitch to make a small rice bag, lovely to keep small sewing things in. Or make a stuffed pin cushion or book cover. I will have a selection of samples to inspire you and will demonstrate how I made them. This workshop is suitable for new beginners as well as those with previous experience.

I will provide endless tea and coffee, biscuits and afternoon cake.

Please remember to bring your own packed lunch.

This workshop is a relaxing day of mixed methods to produce a finished piece of feltwork that can be referred back to for reference when creating your own work in the future. It allows you to sample a wide variety of methods all in one day. Come with an open mind and enjoy the process.
