FELT AMULET POUCH :
Felt and embellish.
Just one place remaining
Spend the day enjoying a variety of techniques to create your own Amulet Pouch Bag. What’s in a name? What is an Amulet bag? Historically it was simply a small bag or pouch to contain something precious or treasured. Today it can be for whatever you would like it to be. I keep pieces of sea glass as a memory from a special beach I have walked on. As they jangle around you get a very soothing sound.
This workshop will give you the skills to make 3d felt in miniature rather than a large felt pouch. Learn how to lay out your wool to take into account the smaller scale and unusual shaped templates.
We will cover how to create a fringe during the laying out process. This could be curly wool locks or wool tassels you make. Alternatively add fancy threads or yarns at this stage.
During this relaxing workshop we cover a variety of techniques. We will begin the day by creating a wet felt small pouch using the resist method. During the feltmaking process I will show you different ways of adding surface pattern and texture. There will be a choice of templates to choose from in a variety of shapes. These can be organic shapes, uniform sided shapes or podlike shapes.
While the pouch is drying I will show you a variety of ways of making tassel style embellishments using threads, wool yarn and natural plant fibre to add to your pouch.
I will then show you how to needlefelt small decorative beads of varying shapes that can be added to your pouch to dangle from various points.
I will have a wide selection of glass style beads, buttons and embroidery threads for you to use. I will demonstrate a variety of ways of adding these to your pouch as a fringe or decoration.
We will then attach everything to the felt pouch and attach a cord as a way of hanging around your neck or a shorter cord to hang from a hook . Alternatively I will bring a selection of small driftwood pieces which you could attach as a hanger instead of a cord.
You will go home with a highly decorative pouch to keep your own Amulet or treasures in. It could be used in many other ways too such as containing dried seed heads or feathers.
Of course the choice is yours, if you don’t feel you want to embellish your felt you don’t have to. You are welcome to make a second small piece instead.
This workshop is suitable for new beginners as well as those with some experience.
