Residential Feltmakers Weekend with Jenny Pepper
and Guest Tutor Jackie Lunn
Following the success of our 2007 retreat at Cober Hill I am happy to announce I will be running a weekend in 2009. The theme will be Mixed Media Feltmaking. We all lead busy lives and the luxury of time to spend on feltmaking and experimenting with different techniques is precious. This weekend we will indulge in experimenting with techniques culminating in a finished work on Sunday. You can arrive from 3pm on Friday.
Briefly:
On arrival we will have samples, books and source material to inspire. We will cover possible techniques and discuss and develop your ideas.
On Friday afternoon and evening we will experiment with dyeing silk and cotton fibres and fabrics ready to use and incorporate on Saturday. There will be collections of found objects to incorporate with your work.
Saturday morning we will help you develop your ideas and we will cover different methods of feltmaking to suit your choice, whether that be sculptural, Nuno for scarves and wraps or functional. Learn to make 3 dimensional hollow vessels, simple elegant forms or freaky adventurous shapes. Incorporate fibres, fabrics, found objects, stitch, beads and buttons.
Sunday morning we will be stitching, embroidering and adorning the finished felt work.
After lunch we will return to the work room for the final time and share our work and say our goodbyes.
Having previously stayed at Cober Hill we can confirm from personal experience this is a wonderful venue. There are very traditional original main communal rooms and modern light comfortable en-suite bedrooms. The price includes a private en-suite bedroom, however if you would like to share with a friend this is possible. The views are lovely and it is surrounded by garden, very relaxing. The workshop is large and spacious with water and sink next door. All diets are catered for and whatever your choice, the food is plentiful and tasty. Breakfast is buffet service, lunch and dinner are waitress service. Wine can be purchased with the evening meal. There are coffee and tea facilities next to the workroom and in your bedroom freely available all day. Any questions please ask.
To book a place please email Jenny for a booking form. £50 non-refundable deposit is required. There are a maximum of 14 places available. Balance payable 8 weeks before.
Rail transport would be to Scarborough station and we can collect from the station or a taxi would be about 20 mins.
Ample on site parking.

We have received a number of enquiries from overseas regarding travel. The most direct route for air is to fly to Manchester airport and take a train to Scarborough. This is only a suggestion, further rail details are on the British Rail website. We cannot take any responsibility for travel arrangements. We suggest you ensure you take out your own holiday insurance to cover all eventualities.
