Here you will find a brief description of what we will cover in each workshop. Small groups of just 5 participants in each workshop.

New for 2010

I have been invited to lead Felt Making workshops at The Workshop, Ebberston, North Yorkshire,(between Pickering and Scarborough).

The workshop has been established for a few years now and has become a popular venue for learning Painted Furniture and Upholstery skills. In 2010 the workshop has expanded with a newly converted workshop next to the original workshop in a converted barn. It is easy to find, just off the main Pickering to Scarborough road with ample free parking within the courtyard area.

Workshops will take place on Fridays between 10.00 and 3.30 in a relaxed atmosphere working at your own pace. All workshops are suitable for beginners. For those with previous experience the day will be guided to suit your skill level. Most of all, you will be learning a new skill with like minded people, come with friends or meet new friends!

September 10th Cobweb Felt Scarf  Fully booked

Cobweb is the lightest most delicate felt making method. We will cover how to lay out the wool, which is different to the traditional method, then add silk fibres and locks for detail. You will take home a finished scarf.

September 24th Decorative Felt  2 places available

Have a fun day experimenting with pattern and colour. We will learn how to make prefelts to cut into and apply to a background to create pattern. We will also cover blending wools to achieve different colourways. You can choose what your finished piece is, but it could be a wall hanging, table mat or small runner. Alternatively, make flat felt and when dry cut and stitch to make a book cover or purse.

November 19th Needlefelting- an Introduction  2 places available

Needlefelting is a dry method of feltmaking and totally different to wet felting. It is a very useful technique allowing you to create shape and fine detail. It can be used on its own or incorporated with traditional feltmaking when dry to add detail and decoration. During this workshop we will spend the morning covering needlefelting with prefelt to create pattern and detail. During the afternoon we will use needlefelting in a totally different way to create small 3 dimensional felt. You could make an item such as a useful and attractive pin cushion or a small collection of felt beads. We will cover how to decorate the beads. Once at home the beads could be strung into a necklace or similar.

December 3rd Felt Jewellery

During this workshop we will cover a variety of wet and dry techniques to use when making felt jewellery. We will learn how to make cords with all in one fastenings, sushi beads (look a bit like liquorice allsorts !) and shaped beads. You can choose to make a selection of components to take home and assemble into jewellery after the workshop or choose from examples on display to make one finished piece of felt jewellery to take home. Ideal for ideas to make for Christmas presents.

Each workshop is £40 to include materials and equipment required on the day. Refreshments will be provided but please bring a packed lunch. A non-refundable deposit of £10 per place is required to secure a place. "The Workshop" reserves the right to cancel any date if there are insufficient participants. A minimum of 5 people are required for the workshop to run. In these circumstances the deposit will be transferred or refunded. As yet, no workshop has had to be cancelled up to 6 July 2010.

All materials and equipment are provided, but you will be required to bring 2 towels with you, a note pad and pen, sharp scissors and a plastic bag would be useful also.
